1943 Kai Review - PCEngineFan

Ok, so 1943 Kai has me smiling from ear to ear. It is so nice to be presented with a shooter that gives you a fighting chance, yet offers a nice challenge. Of course it's 1943, we're at war and you are the lone fighter pilot off to help save us all! You are up against impossible odds, 1,000's of enemy ships, and wave after wave of HUGE bosses, and they are all out to kill you. Well, that's not going to stop us is it?! HELL NO! Time to strap in and kick butt.
As you can see from the screen shots here, the game is intense. Wave after wave of never ending fighters come at you, all hell bent on killing you, but there is a chance! You are given some very nice firepower to fight back with, but there is a problem...fuel. You need to make sure you have enough fuel to make it! Power-ups sometimes need to be ditched in favor of a fuel recharge instead just to keep you in the action, and I love this balance of firepower! Do I crank it up to the max or refuel and continue the fight with less power? AWESOME play mechanics!
There is also the BIG BOOM weapon to unleash upon your foes, but it comes at the cost of that much needed fuel. Plan out your big attacks accordingly! I have played through the game, and it is one of my favorite shooters on the PC Engine. I have screenies here of the first 3 levels for you to enjoy, but there is so much more to see! I have honestly not seen another shooter on the PC Engine that throws this many enemy ships at you at the same time, absolutely amazing graphics for a Hu Card game! Do yourself a favor and pick this bad boy up, simply one of the best shooters on the system, period.
